About Joe

I have lived in the Austin area for about 25 years. I’m married to one of the most talented journalists I’ve ever met, Melissa Segrest, who serves as Communications Director at Bluebonnet. We have two wonderful 27-year-old daughters who lives here in Austin and a beautiful 1-year-old granddaughter.

I’m a history buff, an avid reader and writer with an eclectic range of interests including canoeing, camping, theatrical arts, filmmaking, computer gaming, guitar, banjo and songwriting. I’m currently developing a screenplay with my brother, Hus Miller, a professional movie producer and writer. I’m also a visual artist, painting in oils and various other mediums, plus sculpture. I speak Spanish with moderate proficiency. I co-founded and performed with the Austin comedy troupe Gag Reflex.
